Role: Senior Civil Engineer

Location: Abuja, Nigeria

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Own design and validation of civil/structural/geotechnical aspects for PV, BESS, microgrids, and associated infrastructure (foundations, trenches, drainage, equipment pads, buildings).

  • Develop structural designs for mounting systems, equipment enclosures, cable trenches, access roads, and related infrastructure.

  • Conduct design reviews, site constructability assessments, and risk mitigation for civil works.

  • Oversee geotechnical investigations and integrate results into engineering design.

  • Provide mechanical arrangement and installation input for BESS enclosures and mechanical integration of energy storage equipment.

  • Conduct design reviews to ensure compliance with industry standards, client requirements, and local building codes.

  • Prepare and review engineering drawings, specifications, and BOQs.

  • Collaborate with project managers, electrical engineers and project engineers to ensure interdisciplinary coordination and alignment.

  • Anticipate design conflicts (structural loads, clearances, trench routing, etc.) and resolve them early through multidisciplinary coordination.

  • Support construction activities, including site supervision, quality control, and contractor management.

  • Identify and mitigate engineering risks, including structural reliability, soil stability, drainage, and thermal/mechanical performance of systems.

  • Support procurement team with technical specifications and vendor evaluations (civil works contractors, material suppliers).

  • Ensure compliance with Nigerian building codes, Eurocode, ACI, IEC, and local regulatory requirements.

  • Ensure health, safety, and sustainability standards are embedded into all civil designs.

  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of EM-ONE’s engineering standards and practices.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Prepare lightning protection system layouts using vendor simulations and specifications.

  • Design earthing system layouts in compliance with vendor analysis and specifications.

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (Master’s in Structural Engineering preferred).

  • 7+ years of experience in civil and structural design for infrastructure or energy projects.

  • Proven experience in solar PV and/or BESS projects (utility-scale or large commercial).

  • Strong knowledge of foundation design, geotechnical engineering, and structural analysis.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, and at least 3 other civil design software (like Civil 3D, STAAD Pro, ETABS, ASDIP, or similar tools).

  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft office package- Microsoft word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft power point and other necessary Microsoft office package.

  • Practical knowledge of construction methodologies, materials, and standards in emerging markets.

  • Ability to manage deliverables across multiple projects and work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.

  • Strong communication and report-writing skills.

  • Professional Engineering License (COREN, NSE, or equivalent).

  • Knowledge of international standards (Eurocodes, ACI, ASCE, IEC, etc.). as applicable.

  • Hands-on field experience in African or similar developing market contexts
